Lighting In Fashion: Lumenate® Makes the Runway

This year, Lumetta had the honor of literally lighting up the catwalk at the 2024 IIDA Fashion Show.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to SmithGroup for their brilliant concepts and design, and to OCS Lighting and Controls for their invaluable sponsorship. A special thank you to the talented model Betsy Termini from the SmithGroup, and the dedicated event organizers who made this spectacular event a success.

SmithGroup’s San Diego team drew inspiration from the ethereal beauty of nature, particularly the enchanting dance of light on falling snowflakes. This vision culminated in a breathtaking formal gown adorned with matching wraps, featuring intricate circular accents crafted from Lumetta’s Trans Dixie pattern using TransLumenate®. Lumenate® and TransLumenate®—Lumetta’s exclusive, versatile, and washable composite material—offers a spectrum of translucent to opaque lighting effects in matte and gloss finishes. Known for its durability and vibrant color retention, TransLumenate® allowed the designer to realize a vision that shimmered with every step down the catwalk.

Themed “Terra: A Fashion Exploration of Earth’s Beauty,” this year’s event challenged designers to create couture from materials typically used in commercial interior design. The resulting outfits, sourced during a fabric grab and enhanced by sponsor contributions, epitomized creativity and sustainability.

The highlight of SmithGroup’s creation was its illuminated bottom, which captivated the audience and accentuated its intricate details, embodying the event’s celebration of fashion, creativity, and community. The evening featured a stunning array of outfits crafted and modeled by talented local A&D firms affiliated with IIDA’s San Diego chapter.

Congratulations to all participants, presenters, and sponsors for contributing to this remarkable event. Special thanks to IIDA for orchestrating an evening that showcased the beauty of design and illuminated the industry’s collaborative spirit.
