Hamilton College Health and Wellness Center

With a focus on health and wellness services, Hamilton College selected Chiang | O’Brien Architects to design a functional space that addressed the growing demand for more integrated physical and mental health services from a single facility.

The vision for the interior was to provide welcoming and inviting spaces with clean and minimal furnishings, as well as lighting with accents of color to give a warm, “living room” atmosphere. Lumetta’s Shadow Series and Shallow Drums were chosen to highlight the environment.

Abilene Memorial Hospital

Lawrence Group Architects of St. Luis contracted Lumetta to execute luminaires for Abilene Memorial Hospital. They ultimately chose the oversized Custom Box Pendants with powder coated bronze patterned frames and a complementary antimicrobial MT Natural lighting diffuser.

With the compilation of play between metal and light and the warm bronze finish, the deco design of the frame, and their impressive scale, the fixtures looked stunning and delivered the ideal amount of ambient lighting for the environment.

Children’s Health Pediatric ICU

The design team of Perkins + Will Dallas, wanted to create a supportive environment for patients, families and staff of Children’s Health Pediatric ICU by implementing an “Africa: Savanna and Jungle” theme, that would tie in with the hospital’s signature style of refined whimsy.

The savanna and jungle are expressed on the walls with bold, earth-toned illustration and are complemented by Lumetta’s Echo ceiling luminaires which function as illuminated “clouds”.

The Echo’s various patterns and sizes helped the luminaire clouds refract light on the surrounding sky, especially at night when half of the corridor lights dim.

Prairie Lakes HealthCare System

Prairie Lakes Healthcare in Watertown, SD wanted to update and modernize their reception, lunch, and conversation areas and to better utilize their existing space. Lighting was given a top priority, not only for the sake of practicality, but also for aesthetic effects.

The ambient lighting would serve as both a welcoming and comforting atmosphere for patients and visitors alike. The soft illumination would also offer a sense of stability and permanency to the facilities. Lumetta was chosen to design and fabricate the Palindrome, Echo, and L2 Pendants for the project.

Covid-19 Increase in Cases Across the USAugust 2021

There has been a significant increase in COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations, and deaths in the US. 35% of the counties are experiencing high levels of community transmission and COVID-19 is on the rise in 90% of US jurisdictions. The majority of outbreaks are in areas that have low vaccination coverage.

These alarming trends are due to the accelerated spread of the highly transmissible B.1.617.2 (Delta) variant. With the rise in the number of new cases of the virus there has been more strain on healthcare resources, and more cases of hospitalization and death.

The recent surge in COVID-19 cases also allows more opportunities for the virus to mutate, which could lead to the emergence of additional new variants. Variants of the virus that causes COVID-19 are now responsible for all cases in the US. The original strain is no longer detected among variants circulating throughout the country. The Delta variant is now the predominant strain, making up an estimated 83.2% of recent US cases. The best way to slow the emergence of new variants is to reduce the spread of infection by protecting yourself–including getting vaccinated.

COVID-19 is now preventable and the vaccines that are authorized for use in the US are safe and effective against Delta and other variants. If you receive a Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, you will need 2 shots to get the most protection. You should get your second shot even if you have side effects after your first shot, unless a vaccination provider or your doctor tells you not to. If you are only partially vaccinated, you are more likely to get infected, get sick, and spread the virus to others. When you are fully vaccinated, you are protected against severe illness, hospitalization, and death.

To find a vaccine provider near you, visit Vaccines.gov or your state or local public health department website. You can also text your zip code to 438829 to get 3 locations near you with vaccines in stock. If you prefer this information in Spanish, text your zip code to 822862. You can also call the National COVID-19 Vaccination Assistance Hotline at 1-800-232-0233 to get help in English, Spanish, and more than 150 other languages. They also have a TTY line to support access by hearing impaired callers. If you or someone you know is hesitant about receiving the COVID-19 vaccination, CDC has information and answers to frequently asked questions here.

Lumetta’s Custom L2 Drum Pendants Chosen to Shed Light on Cambridge Manner’s CorridorsJuly 2021

Cambridge Manor, located in Calgary’s new University District neighborhood, is focused on administrating the highest standard of care for its residents. The four-story senior care campus includes 240 units that provide residences for independent, long-term care, and memory care living.

The campus is connected to Maple Independent Living, a 95-unit independent living facility, via a plus-30 pedestrian walkway. This connection allows residents of both buildings to connect and share amenities.

S2 Architecture facilitated extensive functional programming and site master planning exercises to understand the needs of the residents and staff, spatial relationships, density, and massing.

If You’re Fully Vaccinated – What You Need to KnowMay 2021

Covid-19 vaccines are effective at protecting you from getting sick from the virus. People who are fully vaccinated can now do many things that they had stopped during the pandemic.

Since the vaccination status of others or whether they are at increased risk for severe COVID-19 is still uncertain, fully vaccinated people should continue to wear masks, cover coughs and sneezes, wash hands often, and follow any applicable workplace or school guidance.

When considering attending any activity, look at the spread of Covid-19 in that community, the number of people participating, and the location of the activity. Outdoor activities are still safer than indoor activities. Fully vaccinated people can participate in some indoor events without much risk.

Are You Fully Vaccinated? People are Considered Fully Vaccinated:

  • 2 weeks after their second dose in a 2-dose series, such as the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine
  • 2 weeks after a single-dose vaccine, such as Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine

If you haven’t met these requirements, you are NOT fully vaccinated. Keep taking all precautions until you are fully vaccinated.

If you have a condition or are taking medications that weaken your immune system, you may NOT be fully protected even if you are fully vaccinated. Talk to your healthcare provider. Even after vaccination, you may need to continue taking all precautions.

If you haven’t been vaccinated yet, find a vaccine near you at www.vaccines.gov

For more up to the minute information about Public Health Recommendations for fully vaccinated people: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/fully-vaccinated.html
